A similar tradition has been transmitted by Abu Hurairah through a different chain of narrators. But this version has been narrated as a statement of Abu Hurairah himself and not attributed to the Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam ). The version has the addition of the words :

"If the cat licks (a utensil), it should be washed once."

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud:

AbuZayd quoted Abdullah ibn Mas'ud as saying that on the night when the jinn listened to the Qur'an the Prophet (ﷺ) said: What is in your skin vessel? He said: I have some nabidh. He (the Holy Prophet) said: It consists of fresh dates and pure water. Sulayman ibn Dawud reported the same version of this tradition on the authority of AbuZayd or Zayd.
